He served as a member of two separate armed battalions, first at Fort Hood, and immediately after in Germany, with the 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 33d Armor. With his global fame, people wondered if the King of Rock & Roll would receive special handling in the military. He said he didn’t want that.

“The Army can do anything it wants with me,” he said.
