“I remember Montreal as the city that enabled me to go to the Major Leagues.”
Playing at Roosevelt Stadium was fitting for Jackie Roosevelt Robinson. It was the move that “revolutionized the baseball world,” as Montreal Royals president framed it in 1945 when he announced his team would become the first to dress a black athlete. Montreal welcomed Robinson with open arms, and Robinson — who would make history a year later by becoming the first ever black player in the majors — made the most of every minute.
In Montreal, he was a legend in the making. And we’re throwing back to Jackie’s time in Montreal with this vintage tee, to that magical time in 1946!
