“I know I’m bad, but he was crazy.” –Muhammad Ali talking about the great Galveston Giant, Jack Johnson

December 26, 1908. Sydney Stadium, in Sydney Australia. That was the day that Jack Johnson shook up the boxing world by beating Tommy Burns to become the heavyweight champion of the world. Was the world ready for Johnson? Not really. And it wasn’t accepting either, but greatness cannot be deterred. Johnson held the title for nearly six years and held his head high enough for us to see him in all his glory over a century later.

Officially licensed by Jack Johnson.
