The first peak of one of the country’s great football programs came in 1960, under the coaching tutelage of Bear Bryant protégé Jim Owens. That season the 7-point underdog Washington Huskies went 9-1 en-route to the Rose Bowl, where they toppled the mighty Golden Gophers of Minnesota to win the national title.

That was the season UW fully arrived.

And over half-a-century later UW’s football program remains one of the most respected in the country!
