Originally known as Saint Ignatius College until changing its name to the University of San Francisco in 1930, the spirit of the Dons athletics has been going strong for nearly 170 years. From its undefeated football season in 1951, which produced three Hall of Fame players and made history when it refused to play in a Bowl game if it meant leaving behind is Black players, to the game-changing Bill Russell era when the Dons won back-to-back national championships in basketball, the history speaks for itself.
