“Just take the ball and throw it where you want to. Throw strikes. Home plate don’t move.”
A legend of the Negro leagues. A giant of the Majors. A folk hero of baseball.
Satchel Paige’s career traces mid-20th century American history itself, as he sawed down batters on mounds from Chattanooga to Kansas City, from Birmingham to St. Louis. He pitched through color barriers, the Great Depression, seven presidents and a great World War. He saw many changes in American history and whizzed his fastball through it all.
One of baseball’s true characters, Paige joked that his career spanned 100 years. In reality, it spanned five decades, but his legend lives on forever through the threads of history.

I’ve been a loyal customer of Roots of Fight for years, but I’m really disappointed with the recent changes in their clothing patterns. The shirts now have wider necklines and a much tighter, longer fit, which doesn’t appeal to me. It’s clear they’re aiming for a different audience now, which is disappointing for long-time fans like myself. I’d rate the new styles a 3 out of 5.
