Roy Jones Jr. 9x Champ Black Tee - Roots of Fight

About — ROY JONES JR.

“Y’all must’ve forgot!”

At his best he was a sight to behold. That is, if your mind could slow things down to register and make sense of what your eyes were seeing. The footwork. The hand speed. The magic of Roy Jones Jr. He struck as quick as the click of a camera. He moved with an almost supernatural grace. Was it effortless?

No, but he sure made it seem that way.

“If they cheat me, that’s okay…I’ll know I really won it.”

Under the ring lights Jones was right at home. From Madison Square Garden to Atlantic City and beyond, from junior middleweight all the way to heavyweight, from Pensacola to the 1988 games to an “Uncivil War,” Junior was a ghost in there. He was elusive and lurking, in sync with fighting’s great instincts. His glove would appear from out of nowhere to play with his opponent’s mind. And his power would flash like the famous smile itself, and — boom — art was born of chaos.

For a generation, Jones Jr. was boxing. A four-division, nine-time champion right at home on every shining marquee. A headliner in the truest sense, a main event in body and spirit, “Captain Hook” was can’t miss theater. And to this day, if you dig deep into a resume unlike any other in boxing’s history, you’ll find the roots of fight itself. No one made the science sweeter.

For those of you who have been with ROF on this journey long enough, you are probably one of the many asking for this reunion. We are very happy to reconnect with and once again collaborate with, our old partner RJJ. P4P. Captain Hook. It’s about time we came back together to honor one of boxing’s greatest champions — Roy Jones Jr.!
