For 10 seasons, he was Brooklyn. For the generations, he’s been an icon. Baseball wouldn’t be what it is without Jackie Robinson, one of the greatest ballplayers that ever lived. It wasn’t merely the on-field prowess he was asked to display as a rookie phenom in 1947, or by breaking baseball’s long-instituted color line and making history - it was that he thrived being a symbol of strength and courage for baseball’s past, present and future.
On the field? The numbers stand the test of time. Rookie of the year in 1947. Six All-Star appearances. League MVP in 1949. World Series champion in 1955.
