More than a footballer, Pelé became a reference point for the world.

"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.”

He is a literal national treasure in his native Brasil, and in the broader sporting world his name carries the kind of gravity that Zeus does for mythology. He is Pelé! The greatest soccer player that ever lived, and the greatest ambassador of the sport that ever will be. By 1980, after galvanizing American youth to play soccer and his stint on the New York Cosmos, Pelé hosted summer camps for kids back home, where he fostered a culture of hard work, dedication, and love of the game.

As part of our February “culture and influence” spotlight, we are throwing back to a titan who helped change the world - a vintage 1980 Pelé capsule!
