A man. A Movement. A voice of action. Malcolm X, the galvanizing Muslim minister who stood tall against oppression in America. He stood up for Black America and cut through the heart of many things.
Oppression. Inequality. Human rights. Black rights. Black pride. Justice.
And on June 29, 1963, in the heart of black Harlem during a time of racial upheaval, Malcolm X stood as tall as ever at the pulpit on 116th and Lenox Avenue for a rally cry for human rights in the face of institutional oppression. He electrified his audience with a call to action. To take a stand. To connect. To know the score as it stood all around them. A few blocks away in downtown New York, down through the southern belt and all the way to the Golden State in the west. The deficit of Black people.
“The entire country is on the verge of erupting into racial violence and bloodshed, simply because 20 million ex-slaves are demanding freedom, justice and equality here in America,” he said that day. “Twenty million second-class citizens, seeking human dignity, seeking human rights. Seeking the right to live in dignity as a human being.”
That courageous voice and message carry forward nearly 60 years later, as the struggle goes on.
With this drop we throw it back to that day Harlem in 1963 and pay respect to the man and the movement.
