“If I’m compared to Babe Ruth or Willie Mays, that’s great. But I’m just going to go out there and be myself.”
In 1989, to call Ken Griffey Jr. a rookie sensation simply wasn’t enough. What Junior did was give the game of baseball an effortless cool that had never been seen before. The smile. The swing. The backwards hat. The home run trot. He became the king of the baseball card boom, and his rookie card was the most sought after for the next decade.
The Kid wasn’t just a sensation, he was a movement.
Officially licensed by Ken Griffey Jr.
DETAILSSHIPPING/RETURNS
Ordered this sweatshirt as a birthday gift for my boyfriend, who grew up in Seattle in the 90’s so of course Ken Griffey Jr is his hero. He unwrapped it and IMMEDIATELY went on a rant: “oh wow, this is the 1989 Upper Deck rookie card, it was the most valuable Ken Griffey Jr baseball card and I never had it! This was THE CHASE CARD!!! It’s ICONIC!!!” so, I think it’s safe to say he loves it. Also, the fit is great, slim cut, arms are nice and long (got him a medium, he’s 6’2 and medium is his usual size).
