The Homestead Grays today live on as one of the most storied franchises in Negro Leagues history. Created by black mill workers in the steel town of Homestead in western Pennsylvania, and owned by the great Cumberland Posey, there was no better team from the 1930s until the Negro Leagues disbanded in the 1940s.
The names are legendary. Cool Papa Bell. Buck Leonard. Ray Brown.
And the most feared hitter in Negro Leagues history, Josh Gibson.
