As a teenager, the “Louisville Lip” won a gold medal at the 1960 games in Rome. The crazy thing? That was only the beginning. Muhammad Ali fought because he was a born fighter. The heavyweight champion of the world. He took on men bigger than him. He took on his times. He stood tall against prejudice, stereotyping and hate. They banished him, stripped him, and tried to make things impossible. He went out and did it anyway.

And he never forgot where he came from! Today his name lives on at the Muhammad Ali Institute of Peace and Justice at the University of Louisville. We have a snapback hat for Muhammad Ali and his Louisville roots, as part of our Ali x UofL Campus Legends collection!
