Yet the name became synonymous with greatness, and what happened within its walls is nothing short of legendary. It was a welterweight factory in the boxing world, featuring the great Thomas “Hitman” Hearns. It made men of wayward boys, and champions out of hungry fighters. Nobody outworked the fighters who showed up at that rundown gym at McGraw Avenue.
