“I want to be remembered as a ballplayer who gave all he had to give.”
Mission accomplished for the great Roberto Clemente. He managed to transcend baseball not only by giving parks across the country a sense of summertime awe for 18 storied seasons between 1955-1972, but by giving of himself so fully. He lived doing what he loved and died doing what was honorable to do. He was on his way to aid earthquake victims in Nicaragua in 1972 when his plane crashed.
Today the #21 is more than a number. It's a reminder of greatness.
