A few miles west of downtown Detroit was a small gym in the basement of an old recreation center. It became an unlikely cradle of boxing champions. Thomas Hitman Hearns. Hilmer Kenty. Mickey Goodwin. All in the trademark gold and red. The Kronk Gym was built on blood and sweat and untold feats of thankless determination in the heart of the Motor City, and it gave way to boarded up windows, graffiti, and rubble years after it flourished. Like all monuments in time, the city took it back.

But during its heyday, grit had never known such vibrancy, and great men breathed life into the word that is now synonymous with greatness: KRONK.
