It was the summer of 1936 and Jesse Owens was coming off an unprecedented performance at a Big Ten Track meet in which he broke 3 world records and tied a 4th. The stage was set for the Berlin Olympics where Jesse had plans to make a statement in front of Hitler and the entire world. The Fastest Man On Earth targeted the games not just as his chance for glory but a chance to show the world that Hitler and white supremacy weren’t just an evil person and a bad idea... they were clearly wrong and unacceptable. The rest is history.
Owens would become the first American in Olympic Track and Field history to win four gold medals in a single Olympiad. Even in the most hostile environment imaginable he still rose to the occasion and dominated that Olympic Games.
Jesse Owens went on to become the first globally known Olympic superstar and one of the greatest Olympians ever. He was also the first-ever sponsored African American male athlete when he wore Adidas spikes at the games.
