“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.” –Muhammad Ali
He had conviction. He had swagger. He was one of the greatest groundbreakers in sports history. Muhammad Ali refused war on religious grounds, becoming a firebrand of the times. Yet he stood by his decision, and in 1971 his fate fell into the hands of the justices of the Supreme Court. After initially voting 5-3 against Ali, the justices looked closer at his religious conviction. It goes into the great Ali lore that through the course of the conference, they saw the light. The final tally was 8-0 for Ali, thus bringing an official end to his three-year exile from boxing. The rest, as they say, is history.
