James Cleveland Owens, more famously recognized as Jesse Owens is one of the most iconic sporting figures of the 20th century. 'The fastest man on earth' rose to national fame in 1935 during a 45 minute Big Ten track and field performance dubbed "the greatest 45 minutes ever in sport" in which he broke 3 world records and tied another - a feat that has never been equaled.

Owens built on this national fame when he broke into the global consciousness at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany. He single-handedly crushed Hitler's myth of Aryan supremacy as he brought home 4 gold medals - the 100m dash, 200m, long jump, and 4 x 100m relay. He was the most successful athlete at the games and was an overnight superstar on the world stage.
